Schemes from across the country gathered with MP’s, government officials, industry representatives and the media to see four prestigious awards presented to the exceptional programmes that operate in our towns and cities.

With the awards launched by Sarah Newton, MP, Home Office Minister Vulnerability, Safeguarding and Countering Extremism, the Best New Scheme was among accolades to Tracey Ford from the Sheffield Drug and Alcohol Action Team for Outstanding Achievement; Exeter BBN for Best Innovation and Durham BBN for Best Overall Scheme.

The Best New Scheme saw schemes in Torquay, Central Bedfordshire and Clapham go head-to-head with Clapham BBN topping the judge’s scorecards.

“Clapham is an area which has a challenging evening and night time economy,” said BBN Chairman Robert Humphreys.

“The new programme has seen the area embrace over 75% of its pubs and bars in the first year – this is a fantastic start in a one of London’s liveliest areas.”

Clapham is pleased to have been recognised as the Best New Scheme programme in the UK. 75% of licensed premises in Clapham participated in the first Best Bar None awards in 2016, underlining the commitment from the business community to maintaining Clapham as a popular and safe destination. Clapham has championed a successful partnership approach to managing the town centre at weekends and we are indebted to the support we receive from the Police, businesses, the community and Churches Together in Clapham. We look forward to delivering another successful Best Bar None programme in 2017 as part of a wider programme to reduce alcohol related crime and to support local businesses.
