Congratulations to Birksen!!!!!

So congratulations to Christmas lights shop window winner BIRKSEN! Their Scandinavian window display went perfectly with the Christmas theme and usual eye catching, artistic window displays.

Birksen opened back in 2007 by Tim Birks and Lisbeth Oleson and sits right in the heart of Clapham Old Town. Tim’s passion for flowers started from growing up in Lymme with his parents who owned a flower shop. He then moved to London to study textiles at Goldsmiths. Tim then went on to work at a flower stall in Covent Garden before moving on to the world renown McQueen’s where he worked on Vanity Fair Oscar parties and Cannes film festival. This is also where the collaboration with Lisbeth began. Lisbeth, who grew up in Denmark, moved to London to study and went on to have an 8-year career in IT before pursuing a career in floristry. After completing a course at McQueen’s, Lisbeth then went on to become Tim business partner.

We had a chat with Tim and Lisbeth about their beginning’s and their future here in Clapham….

What was the inspiration for the Christmas shop display?

We love our Scandinavian ‘nisser’ and they went well with our tall Santa’s so it just went from there. We always try to make our windows creative and eye catching.

What made you decide to open up in Clapham and what do you enjoy about being here?

We already knew the area and thought the kind of shop we were planning would fit in well. We love Clapham and have really enjoyed seeing it evolve over the last 10 years. There’s a great community which gives the area a nice village feel.
Do you work with any other business in the area and what are your up and coming projects?

We provide local businesses with weekly flowers and support the local schools and other organisations. We provide Clapham Manor Primary School with a free weekly vase of flowers and provide raffle prices to as many schools and charities as we can. We’ve got 2 of our biggest days coming up, Valentine’s and Mother’s Day and also a shopping trip to Holland next week to source new products for the shop.
