Cactus Kitchens

We are pleased to announce the date of the third Clapham Works Event hosted for a second time by Cactus Kitchens.

Clapham BID members will be treated to an evening of high quality food and drink and will benefit from meeting other Clapham Businesses. You will also get to see behind the scenes on the set of Saturday Kitchen and take a look around the Cactus Kitchens building, which is located in an old chapel off Clapham High Street.

The evening will include a presentation from economist Vicky Pryce on the current state of the economy and what local businesses could expect in the short and medium term.

“Vicky Pryce is an economist, author and commentator and on the board of the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR). Vicky was previously Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting, Director General for Economics at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and Joint Head of the UK Government Economic Service. Before that she was Partner at the accounting and consulting firm KPMG and at London Economics after senior economic positions in banking and the oil sector. She holds a number of academic posts and is a Fellow of the UK Academy for Social Sciences and of the Society of Business Economists.

She sits on the Council of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, on the cross-party/cross-House Design Commission, on the Advisory Board of the central banking think-tank OMFIF and on the Economic Advisory Group of the British Chambers of Commerce. She is also Patron of the charities Pro-Bono Economics and Working Chance. She was instrumental in the setting up and was previously chair of GoodCorporation, a company set up to advise on corporate social responsibility. She is a Freeman and Liveryman of the City of London.

Her books include: ‘Greekonomics: The Euro crisis and Why Politicians Don’t Get It’, Biteback Publishing(2013)’; ‘It’s the Economy, Stupid– Economics for Voters’, with Ross and Urwin, Biteback (2015);and  ‘Redesigning Manufacturing’, with Nielsen and Beverland, Macmillan(2015)

As an ongoing issue raised by local businesses we will also welcome back local chartered surveyor Rod Pearson from Evans Pearson Chartered Surveyors who will also be on hand to give us an update on business rates and progress made on appeals.

We also welcome Chris Varley and Dr John Mitchell from Export and General Insurance who will provide us with some valuable information on cyber crime insurance and will take some questions that guests may have.
