Venn Street

Clapham Leaf Club is a project designed to enable pupils from Clapham’s primary schools to learn all aspects of growing their own food from preparing the soil using organic matter, to sowing seeds and culturing their crops which will be harvested and sold as fruit and vegetables or used in a cuisine and cooked and sold at the Market every year in July.

Grand Finale
Saturday 15^th July – 10am to 3pm
with Salsa dancing at 11am, 12pm and 1pm

Each July the Market celebrates the summer harvest by holding a Grand Finale where all the participating schools work collaboratively side by side selling the plants they’ve grown from seed. There is something for everyone including cakes, fresh herbs, tomato plants, courgettes, potatoes and fresh cut flowers, plus so much more! All the funds raised go back into the schools – everyone benefits..

This year to coincide with Clapham Leaf Club, the Market is holding its second art competition Imagine: 2. The first competition took place in 2010 when pupils were invited to Venn Street during its redevelopment – they were encouraged to consider this urban environment and how the new food market sits within it. This year, for 2023, pupils are again invited to Imagine where their food comes from, their favourite foods and their market experiences.

From each participating school there is one winner whose design will be printed onto the Market’s new market bags to be sold at the Market and at the participating schools where any profits can also go back into the school’s programme.

We aim to have the designs ready in time for this year’s Clapham Leaf Club so that the winners can be announced and the participating schools can sell their bags at the Grand Finale!
