Clapham Picturehouse are delighted to announce they will be hosting a special preview screening of Stephen Frears’ comedy- drama FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS on bank holiday Monday 2nd May at 17.30. After the film we welcome screenwriter Nicholas Martin for a Q&A.

Synopsis
The incredible true story of FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS, stars Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep, a New York heiress, who dreams of becoming an opera singer, despite having a terrible singing voice! Hugh Grant co-stars as her husband and manager, St Clair Bayfield an aristocratic English actor, who is determined to protect his beloved Florence from the truth. But when Florence decides to give a public concert at Carnegie Hall in 1944, St Clair knew he faced his greatest challenge.

Nick Martin
After working as a journalist, Nicholas graduated from the National Film and Television School in 1992. His first produced script was for the highly regarded BBC series Between the Lines, which won the BAFTA award for best series. In 1998 he wrote a total of 16 episodes of the ITV comedy drama series, Big Bad World, which launched the careers of actors Stephen Mangan and Lucy Punch.

He continued to write for British TV, regularly contributing to popular series like the Bill and Midsomer Murders. In early 2014, producer Michael Kuhn read Martin’s script Florence Foster Jenkins and optioned it the same day. Within a week, Stephen Frears had agreed to direct and within three weeks Meryl Streep signed on to play Florence.
